PASCAGOULA — The sixth “Southern Six” Senior Spotlight sponsored by Reese’s of the new school year is Pascagoula’s Silas Corder.

Each week throughout the school year, we here at SouthMiss6 Sports will highlight a senior student/athlete in the “Southern Six” to honor.

Corder, the senior standout signal-caller for the Panthers, is a Southern Miss commit who is off to a stellar start to his final campaign at PHS.

Last week, in a big 44-3 thumping of longtime rival Biloxi, Corder completed 21-of-27 passes for 298 yards and four touchdowns in the win heading into an open date for both teams.

He has Pascagoula off to a 4-1 start for the second consecutive season, as the Panthers played four games in the friendly confines of War Memorial Stadium before the end of September for the first time in 18 years and won all four. It has taken just those first five games for Corder to already surpass the 1,000 yard passing mark this year, as he has completed 84-of-128 passes for 1,118 yards and 11 touchdowns with just two interceptions.

The 4-0 start to a home slate is the quickest for the Panthers since their last state championship season in 1987, when during the midst of that 14-0 campaign 37 years ago PHS won its fifth straight game with four of those at home by Oct. 2nd.

Also, this week Corder was selected to be a member of the South team in the annual Bernard Blackwell North/South All-Star Football game to take place in December in Gulfport.

The Reese’s company has long been a big supporter of current and former high school student/athletes all over the Southeast.

In addition to its new partnership with the Senior Bowl, the Reese’s® brand is also the official candy partner of the NCAA® and the title sponsor of the National Association of Basketball Coaches’ Reese’s® College All-Star Game, which features the top Division I senior basketball student-athletes from around the country and is played the weekend of the NCAA Men’s Final Four®.
