PERKINSTON — The Stone Tomcats used a salty defense and balanced offense to dispose of the Saint Stanislaus Rock-A-Chaws Friday 32-0 on the campus of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
Stone head coach Jacob Aycock commented, “Kylan Burnett and Ayden Green are our one-two punch this year in the backfield. Kylan is a powerful downhill runner while Ayden has terrific feet for a freshman. Our defense played well tonight shutting out Saint Stanislaus. We knew coming into this season that we would have to depend on them. We feel like we are two plays away from being 4-1. Now, we have to get to work preparing for our division opener against Laurel. They played for a state title last year and have several players returning from that team. We need to be ready to play our best game.”

The Rocks (3-3) opened the game with a 60-yard field goal attempt by Evan Noel that had the distance but sailed wide left. 
The teams swapped possessions before the Tomcats took over on the Rock 37 yard line. Zander Howard tossed a two-yard scoring aerial to Keena Galloway with 4:42 left in the first quarter. Aiden Guinn missed the PAT leaving the score 6-0.
Each team traded possessions three times before Stone started at their own nine yard line following Noel’s downed punt. 
The Rocks committed three consecutive personal foul face mask penalties that helped move the ball down to the Rock 11 yard line. Kylan Burnett ripped off an 11-yard scoring run with 6:28 left in the half. Guinn’s PAT was good pushing the score to 13-0.

On the ensuing possession, the Rocks moved the ball down to the Tomcats’ 30  yard line before Noel attempted a 47-yard field goal with 2:47 left in the half that sailed wide right. 
The Tomcats answered with a seven-play drive culminating with a 13-yard scoring toss from Howard to Galloway with 36 seconds left in the half. Guinn’s PAT was good making the halftime score 20-0.
Stone opened the second half with a 32-yard pass from Howard to Ayvon Stringfield. Three plays later, Burnett scored from 26 yards out with 10:24 left in the third quarter. Alston Davidson blocked Guinn’s PAT leaving the score 26-0. 
The teams traded possessions twice before Stone found the endzone on an Ayden Green one-yard run with 4:46 let to play. The Tomcats went for two and failed leaving the final score 32-0.
Saint Stanislaus head coach Tate Thigpen stated, “We played poorly on both sides of the ball and did not come out with any energy or fire tonight. We had chances at some big plays early and they did not materialize. It will be a tough week practice preparing for our first district game. Our goal is to keep moving forward and overcome adversity.”

Henry Nunmaker led the Rocks with 10 carries for 49 yards while Sam Grant was 8-for-17 for 135 yards and two interceptions. 
The Tomcats were paced by Burnett who ran for 128 yards on 15 carries while Green rushed for 108 yards on 12 carries. 
The Tomcats travel to Laurel next Friday while the Rocks travel to Tylertown. Both teams open division play next week. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
