OCEAN SPRINGS — Entering the playoffs, both “Southern Six” prep volleyball powers OLA and Ocean Springs had both notched over 30 wins on the season.
And both the Crescents and Lady Greyhounds continued to roll Tuesday night with sweeps at home.
Two-time and defending Class 3A state champion OLA knocked off Jefferson Davis County 3-0 in the second round of the South State playoffs while in the opening round of the Class 7A South State playoffs OSHS dispatched Petal 3-0 as well.
In Bay St. Louis, Ava Davis had 13 assists, Taylor Henley had 14 kills and Myah Favre added 12 kills and four service aces for OLA. Also, Anna Kate Ivy and Madaline Piazza each had five aces apiece, while Kinsley Stegall added 15 digs in the winning effort.
The Crescents, now an impressive 38-4, now move on to face Enterprise-Clarke Thursday night in the Class 3A South State semifinals.

In other Class 3A South State playoff action Tuesday night, St. Patrick swept Seminary 3-0 and will face West Marion Thursday night.
Meanwhile, in Ocean Springs Tuesday night, the Lady Greyhounds moved to a solid 33-9 overall with the sweep of Petal. Ocean Springs will host Northwest Rankin Thursday night in the Class 7A South State semifinals after the Lady Cougars knocked off visiting Harrison Central 3-1 Tuesday night also.

On the other side of that bracket, home-standing Gulfport swept Oak Grove 3-0 Tuesday night and the Lady Admirals will now head to Brandon to face the Lady Bulldogs after they clipped visiting D’Iberville 3-0 as well on Thursday night.
In Class 6A, Hancock and George County both advanced with 3-0 sweeps at home, as the Lady Hawks beat Terry and the Lady Rebels clubbed Pearl River Central. On Thursday, Hancock hosts West Harrison after the Lady Hurricanes went on the road and swept Hattiesburg 3-0 Tuesday night, while GCHS will head to Soso to face West Jones after the Lady Mustangs smacked Long Beach 3-0 Tuesday night.

In Class 4A, Pass Christian and Poplarville advanced to the next round as the Lady Pirates beat home-standing Jackson Lanier 3-0 and the Lady Hornets hammered Sumrall 3-0 while Bay High fell to Purvis 3-0 on the road.
Now, Pass Christian will host Purvis Thursday night and Poplarville will face Northeast Jones.
Also, in Class 1A, home-standing resurrection held off Noxapater 3-1 Tuesday night and now the Lady Eagles will face upstart East Marion Thursday night.
