VANCLEAVE — Visiting Gautier smacked Vancleave around Friday night to open Region 4-5A play.
The Gators moved to 5-1 overall with an impressive 47-14 win. The Bulldogs had their three game winning streak snapped and they fall to 3-3 overall.
After a scoreless first quarter, :11 seconds into the second quarter Gautier would get on the scoreboard first with a 4-yard scoring run from quarterback Trey Irving. Eric Robinson would add the Point-after for a 7-0 lead with 11:49 remaining before halftime.



With 08:54 remaining in the second quarter on Vancleave’s next possession, the Bulldogs would face 4th and 4 from the Gautier 23. Quarterback Wyatt Adams would hit Junior Harris on the quick hitch but Harris would spin free from the defender and race down the visitor’s sideline for the touchdown. After the Jordyn Raynor PAT the game was tied up at 7-7.
A mere :14 seconds later Gautier would respond when Irving found Kainen Rush over the middle of the field deep for a 68-yard touchdown to make it 14-7.
The next score of the game would be a 17-yard scoring run by Irving to extend the lead to 21-7 at the 03:22 mark of the second quarter.
With Vancleave driving inside the Gautier 30 yard line, looking to answer before the half, QB Wyatt Adams would be hit as he released a pass and Gautier linebacker Fred Nicholson would grab the ball out of the air and race 75 yards for the touchdown and suddenly it was 28-7 with 01:34 before the half.



With 00:59 seconds to go in the third, Gautier running back Kasin Thomas would score from one yard out. The PAT was no good for a 34-7 lead. Vancleave would respond quickly and with 11:26 remaining in the fourth quarter, Vancleave running back Hunter Harper would score from a yard out to make it 34-14.
Irving would score his third touchdown of the night, this time from 8 yards out, and the route was on at 40-14.
The final score of the night would be a 58-yard touchdown rush by Gautier freshman running back Latrell Pogue, as he would race untouched for the score. The final Robinson PAT would be good for the game’s final 47-14 margin.



Irving completed 12-of-17 passes for 212 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
Vancleave rushed for 193 yards as quarterback Wyatt Adams completed 12-of-16 passes for 216 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Next week Vancleave travels to the campus of MGCCC vs the Stone Tomcats while Gautier hosts the Wayne County War Eagles.
