Eight prep volleyball teams in the “Southern Six” in six different classifications are still standing and each is one win away from advancing to the overall state finals after action Thursday night.
Resurrection, OLA, Poplarville, Vancleave, East Central, Hancock, George County and Ocean Springs are all still alive.
In Class 7A, Ocean Springs swept visiting Northwest Rankin 25-13, 25-16 and 25-13 Thursday night to advance after their second straight home playoff win in just three days. The Lady Greyhounds now move on to host Brandon in the Class 7A South State championship match Monday. Brandon dispatched visiting Gulfport in four sets Thursday night.



Class 6A and Class 5A will feature all “Southern Six” affairs Monday night with a berth in their respective state finals on the line.
In Class 6A, home-standing Hancock swept West Harrison 3-0 while visiting George County did the same to West Jones. That sets up the third meeting of the season between Region 4-6A rivals as the Lady Hawks will host the Lady Rebels Monday night in the Class 6A South State championship tilt.
In Class 5A, arch-rivals and Region 4-5a foes Vancleave and East Central will also face off for the third time this season after the Lady Bulldogs survived a five set battle with visiting Gautier 3-2 and the Lady Hornets slipped past home-standing South Jones 3-1. Vancleave will host ECHS Monday night.




In Class 4A, Poplarville popped visiting Northeast Jones 3-0 and will host Purvis Monday night for the Class 4A South State title. Purvis went on the road and knocked off Pass Christian 3-0 also.
In Class 3A, two-time defending state champion OLA won its third straight home playoff series in the past six days with a 3-0 sweep of Enterprise-Clarke. The Crescents will host West Marion in the Class 3A South State title tilt after the Lay Trojans swept visiting St. Patrick 3-0.



And, in Class 1A, Resurrection also remained perfect at home in the postseason with its third win in six days as well sweeping East Marion 3-0. The Lady Eagles will now host Stringer in the Class 1A South State finals Monday night.
All seven state championships are set for Oct. 17-18 at A.E. Wood Coliseum in Clinton on the campus of Mississippi College.
