OCEAN SPRINGS — Home-standing Ocean Springs recorded its 21st straight region win Friday night, which is a new school record.

The Greyhounds hammered Harrison Central 48-3 to move to 2-0 in Region 4-7A play as the Red Rebels drop to 1-1 in the league standings.

Ironically enough, it was HCHS that handed the Greyhounds their last region loss which came in the regular season finale in 2020. Ocean Springs has won three straight region titles.

The Greyhounds jumped out to a 21-3 halftime lead.

Sharroid Whitehead dashed in from 6-yards out to cap the opening drive for the Greyhounds but a botched extra point attempt made it 6-0 at the 9:29 mark of the first period.

After OSHS forced a three and out by DHS, the punt snap was bobbled into the end zone and it was 8-0 Greyhounds at the 8:06 mark.

Red Rebel’s placekicker Parrish Laiche booted a 25-yard field goal with just 0:49 left in the first frame to make it 8-3.

Less than three minutes into the second stanza, OSHS running back Will Smith flipped the ball to wide out Bryshen Smith and he sprinted 20 to pay dirt and it was 15-3 OSHS.

Smith then set up the final score of the first half when he covered 44-yards on a run to the HCHS six-yard line then he covered the final three stripes for the score to make it 21-3 with just over five minutes to play in the first half.

In the fourth frame, OSHS freshman quarterback Chalmers Berglind accounted for two scores as he threw a 20-yard scoring pass to Jax Coleman and he then ran for a 37-yard score.
