With Moss Point being eliminated from playoff contention and Resurrection standing on the brink, those aren’t the only two “Southern Six’ prep football squads that are going through a rough trip in region battles.

Moss Point is just one of seven “Southern Six” squads that has yet to notch a league win, and although its too late for the Tigers this season time is running out for the other six teams as well.

In Region 4-7A, both D’Iberville and St. Martin have started out 0-2 in league play. The Yellow Jackets, in fact, have lost 19 straight region games.

In Region 4-6A, both Long Beach and West Harrison each stand 0-2 in the region race.

In Region 4-5A, East Central is 0-2. All teams in the three highest classifications across the state still have three league games apiece to play.

And in Region 8-4A MPHS is 0-3, while in Region 8-3A St. Patrick is 0-3. The season comes to an end for both the tigers and the Fighting Irish this week.

St. Patrick, 0-8 this season, has lost 13 straight games.

Hall Standing Tall

Former Gulfport High standout Derick Hall is enjoying a big year for the Seattle Seahawks.

Back down South on Sunday, Hall enjoyed a career highlight when with home-standing Atlanta threatening to cut into the Seahawks’ 10-point lead, Hall’s teammate Boye Mafe crashed in on quarterback Falcon quarterback Kirk Cousins as he was trying to throw and knocked the ball to Hall who returned the fumble 64 yards for a touchdown late in the third quarter. That was the decisive turn in Seattle’s 34-14 victory at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

It was Hall’s first career turnover and touchdown, as Seattle reclaimed first place in the NFC West because San Francisco lost at home to unbeaten Kansas City later Sunday.

Hall had the highest grade on defense, posting an 87.7 overall grade on the strength of a 91.0 in pass rushing. His five sacks from his linebacker spot are tied for the most with the Seahawks, and he ranks 12th in the NFL in pressure rate, according to Pro Football Focus.

A stellar three-sport star at Gulfport High, the standout edge rusher and former team captain at Auburn was a second-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks in 2023.

The 6-foot-3, 260-pound Hall also had one of his best outings of his young NFL career several weeks ago registering two sacks to key a 24-3 Seattle win over the Miami Dolphins.
