Last season at this time, MP was enjoying an open week during the final regular season playing date and was practicing with state playoff hopes in mind.
This year, the Tigers have already turned in their equipment and vacated the locker room at Dantzler Stadium which marks the earliest confirmed exit for a football season in over seven decades for once mighty MPHS.
And now, the next time the Tigers take the football field it might be as a Class 3A team next August.

Moss Point finished its first win-less season last week in 72 years, and the 0-9 record is the worst overall since that 1952 squad went 0-11. The Tigers ended the regular season last week with a 54-19 loss to home-standing Greene County on the road in Leakesville at Johnny Ainsworth Stadium. But Moss Point’s playoff hopes ended a week earlier, on Friday, Oct. 19th, with a 41-0 loss at home to Pass Christian.
Against the Wildcats, Greene County senior quarterback, Coby King accounted for his 103rd career touchdown since taking the starting snaps in the 2022 season with scoring strikes of 57, 16, 19, 20, 76, and six yards to four different receivers, and a 54 yard scamper of his own in the thrashing of the Tigers.

For the second week in a row Greene County (7-1, 3-0) has beaten an 8-4A opponent by the exact same score, and will now travel to Poplarville to battle the Hornets (8-1, 3-0) for the Region 8-4A crown Friday night.
Moss Point allowed 362 points in just nine games this season, a new school record for average points per game at just over 40.
The Tigers only managed to lead in a game twice this season. Twice.
One of those times came last week, when after falling behind 6-0 Moss Point would answer right back on the ensuing drive with a 12-play, 79 yard drive capped off with a 30-yard touchdown pass from KeVon Ford to Condarius McCorvey to make it 6-6.

On the ensuing kickoff, McCorvey executed a perfect onsides kick that was recovered by the Tigers’ Terrance Jones at the Greene County 47 yard line. Ford the led Moss Point on four straight plays into the end zone once again, this time on a 33-yard scoring toss to Trey Anderson. A failed two-point pass from Ford to McCorvey fell short qand left the score at 12-6 in the first quarter.
Ford later scored on a 4-yard run, but Greene County out-scored MPHS 45-7 over the final three quarters to secure the win.
Now, as the Tiger program looks toward the future, reports from sources close to the situation indicate that Moss Point could drop from Class 4A to Class 3A for the next reclassification period which would include the 2025 and 2026 seasons. If so, it would mark the third such drop in classifications for MPHS in the past 11 years.

If Moss Point drops, it would likely join St. Stanislaus, St. Patrick, Perry Central, West Marion as well as perhaps Tylertown in a newly reconfigured Region 8-3
In that scenario, Poplarville, Greene County, Bay High and Pass Christian would remain in Region 8-4A but would need a fifth member to complete that loop and possible candidates include Purvis and Forrest County AHS
Actual new enrollment numbers are expected to be released later this week or early next week with new reclassification assignments expected to be announced during the overall football state championship weekend in early December.
