BILOXI — The Pascagoula boys enjoyed a record-setting season on the basketball court last year.
But the Panthers and head coach Lorenzo Wright don’t want this season to turn out like last season did. Well, at least not the end of it.
Pascagoula, coming off a stellar 29-2 campaign last season that included a school record 29 straight wins at one point, tips off the new campaign on the road against home-standing Biloxi here at the Biloxi Sports Complex Wednesday night.

But the second and final loss for the Panthers came in the Class 6A overall state semifinals to Ridgeland 48-42 in the semifinal round at The Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson.
The early season match-up is one of the most anticipated in the state of Mississippi in the opening week of play
“It’s a new season with the same end goal,” Wright said, just before the season-opener. “Everyone comes in with the same goal and vision. We are focused on getting one percent better every day.”
Biloxi is playing its second game in two days against a Jackson County squad to tip off the new campaign, after the Indians dispatched visiting Moss Point 78-49.
Reggie Magee paced the Indians with 16 points and Kendrell Beasley added 16 points for Biloxi while Will Rogers tallied a game-high 24 points for MPHS.

It seemed fairly ironic that Biloxi hosted Moss Point last night and then will take on Pascagoula tonight because one of Wright’s new players this season is Quey’Sean Taylor, who played at MPHS the past two seasons.
“Quey’Sean is a unique player, we are excited to have him on our team.” Wright said recently. “He is a high energy guy that can be very explosive and can electrify the crowd. He’s adjusting to the guys really well and is learning and understanding his role.”
The 6-foot-5 Taylor has been a mainstay of late at MPHS, as he averaged almost 15 points and over eight rebounds per game for the Tigers last season and helped guide Moss Point to a first round Class 4A South State playoff appearance
“Having to go from being the man to a team focused unit, everyone playing as one has been an adjustment that he has made a tremendous leap in the short amount of time he has been here,’ Wright added.
The Biloxi girls and Pascagoula girls will begin the evening followed by the boys showdown.
