GAUTIER — Visiting Ocean Springs swept a pair of games from home-standing Gautier Tuesday night in the season-openers for all four squads.
The Lady Greyhounds got the night off to a good start with a 30-8 win over the Lady Gators followed by a 53-42 decision for the Greyhounds over the Gators.
In the boys game, senior standout shooting guard Maddox Noblitt and junior point guard Christian Cowan each tallied a game-high 18 points apiece to lead OSHS in the winning effort.

The Greyhounds finished last year at 20-9 and made it to the second round of the Class 5A South State playoffs before falling to eventual state champion Meridian in Collin Goley’s first-year at the helm of his alma mater.
“It’s always great to get that first win of the season under your belt,” Goley said. “Gautier is a solid team with good size and quick guards. They exposed us in some areas that we need to clean up. I’m happy with how we competed an we will continue to get better each day.
Cowan dropped in a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points total in the first quarter as Ocean Springs took a 17- 12 lead into the second stanza.
He then added his third trey in the second period and Noblitt added two field goals and a pair of free throws and suddenly the Greyhounds had their first double digit lead of the game at halftime 31-20.

Cowan drained yet another 3-pointer in the third frame and Jeremy Packer added five points as the Greyhounds continued to keep the Gators at bay. Noblitt then came alive in the fourth quarter and poured in 10 points including a trey to secure the win for OSHS
While the backcourt combo of Cowan and Noblitt evenly split those 36 points, Packer chipped in seven points to the winning effort for the Greyhound
Gautier got nine points from Tristan Street and eight points from Jermaine Baptiste in the season-opener.

Both the football teams from each school have won their respective region titles as they prepare to open the upcoming state playoffs and both the Greyhounds and Gators will play several games without the services of a few football players and they wrap up the current campaign on the gridiron.
In the girl’s game, Star Jackson 12 tallied a game-high 12 points to pace OSHS to the win as the Lady Greyhounds held Gautier to just one field goal all night.
