BAY ST. LOUIS — Visiting Hancock swept into the Tigerdome here Tuesday night and flew away with a pair of wins over host Bay High in an intra-county showdown.
The Lady Hawks opened the night with a 52-26 win and their male counterparts followed up with a 45-35 win.
In the boy’s game, the Hawks deployed a three-headed missile in the form of Malachi Lightell, Jude Ulrich and Jaden Lee to pick up their first win of the season and even their record up at 1-1. Hancock opened the season getting thumped by Pass Christian 63-32 in the PCHS Tip-Off Tournament a week earlier.

” First, I am very proud of our guys for bouncing back the way they did,” second-year Hancock head coach Conner Entrekin said. “One thing I love about our group of guys is the way they don’t shy away from adversity. They welcome challenges and attack them head on. I think what improved most for us on the court from game one to game two was our ball pressure on the defensive end and offensively we were able to knock down some shots early on that got us going. We knew going into the game we were going to have to get off to a good start and I thought our guys did that well. Bay High is a very well coached team and we knew we had to match their energy and physicality. We were glad to get the win and are looking forward to hosting another well coached team in PCS on Thursday.
Lightell led the way with a game-high 17 points in the win, while Ulrich added 14 points and Lee 11 points as the dynamic trio combined to out-score the entire Bay High team 42-35.

The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair that ended up with HHS in the lead at 15-13 thanks to a pair of 3-pointers by Ulrich and another from Lee.
With the Hawks still slightly leading at 20-17 entering the second half, Hancock began to take control of the contest in the third frame by out-scoring BHS 15-8 thanks to another pair of treys from Ulrich and three field goals from Lightell.
Armed with its first double digit advantage of the game at 35-25 entering the fourth period, the Hawks kept the Tigers at Bay and held on for the 10-point win.
Noah Smith paced Bay High with eight points and Nehemiah Sowders had seven. The Tigers are 0-2 on the year.

In the girl’s game, the Lady Hawks moved to 3-0 on the season doubling up on the home team at 52-26.
Catherine Sins tallied a game-high 17 points to pace the Lady Hawks while Riley Bishop dropped in 16 points and point guard Talana Bond chipped in eight points.
Lakeitha Sampson led BHS with 14 points, as the Lady Tigers also dropped to 0-2.
Both Hancock teams host Presbyterian Christian Thursday night while both Bay High squads host Gulfport Saturday afternoon.
