HATTIESBURG — Five “Southern Six” standouts were named Class 7A First Team All-State over the weekend as yet another season of prep football wrapped up in the state of Mississippi over the weekend.

And there were a trio of Ocean Springs Greyhounds included in that quintet as well as a pair of Gulfport Admirals.

Ocean Springs offensive lineman Zaylin Dedeaux and defensive lineman B.J. Ausmer were honored as well as Greyhound all-around versatile athlete Sharroid Whitehead. Whitehead, who played most of the final eight games at quarterback, also saw time elsewhere in the backfield and out wide as well.

In addition, Gulfport offensive lineman J.J. McCann joined Dedeaux up front on the offensive line as a Class 7A First Team All-State selection, and Admiral linebacker Andre Peters joined Ausmer on the top defensive unit.

In addition, two other “Southern Six” products were named to the second team.
