MOSS POINT — Despite Moss Point not knowing who the new head football coach will be just yet, it is known that the Tigers will be facing a pair of longtime rivals on the gridiron once the new mentor is in place.
SouthMiss6 Sports has learned that Moss Point will once again open the season in the annual “Battle of the Cats” against arch-rival Pascagoula and the Tigers will also face Jackson County rival Gautier in September once again.
The pre-region part of the schedule for all teams across the state of Mississippi has to be re-worked every two years after the bi-annual reclassification process by the Mississippi High School Activities Association. And all teams across the “Southern Six” are currently putting the final touches on their respective schedules for the next two seasons.

Moss Point and Pascagoula just met for the 84th time on the football field this past season. Next year will mark the 11th time in the past 13 seasons that the Panthers and Tigers have opened the season against one another, after almost five decades of meeting in the regular season finale. Pascagoula has owned the series of late, going 10-2 on the field against MPHS since veteran head coach Lewis Sims left the Tigers to take the helm at PHS.

As for Gautier, next year’s game the 21st all-time meeting on the football field between these two Jackson County foes in a series that dates back to 2001. Moss Point leads the series 12-8, but Gautier has won four straight and five out of the past six games.
