KILN — The Hancock girls basketball team has started off a new hoops campaign at 13-0 for the third straight season.
In fact, the last two Lady Hawks teams each jumped out to at least a 17-0 mark before losing their first game of each campaign after the calendar turned to the new year.
However, if this current crop of a Hancock crew hopes to reach that lofty status as well then it has to overcome a pair of fellow unbeaten “Southern Six” foes in a three day span this week to keep that win streak going.
The Lady Hawks hit the road to The Biloxi Sports Arena on Tuesday night to wage war with the Lady Indians who stand 11-0 overall so far.

Then, on Friday, Hancock returns home to host St. Martin. The Lady Yellow Jackets sit at an impressive 15-0 hich is a “Southern Six” best heading into Tuesday’s home game against Long Beach.
Hancock is coming off two straight wins in Region 4-6A last week with a 48-39 win over Pascagoula on Friday and a 60-30 pounding of Picayune on Tuesday to open league play.
Biloxi is coming off 55-14 thumping of visiting Ocean Springs in Region 4-7A play Friday night, as Dandy Dozen sophomore center standout Zaniya Johnson poured in a game-high 22 points to outscore the entire Lady Greyhounds team. She also pulled down 21 rebounds and sihed out 14 assists in the winning effort. Na’Kenya Terry scored 11 points, including three 3-pointers, and Aaliyah Davidson chipped in six assists of her own.

Ironically enough, the last time these two teams met just 11 months ago home-standing Hancock pulled out an exciting 43-41 win over the Lady Indians in what would be the last game of a 20-0 start to the season for the Lady Hawks.
Hancock has won 59 out of its past 64 games and has lost to just one team from the state of Mississippi in the past 34 months, and that came in the “Big House” in late February during the overall Class 6A Final Four in a 48-30 loss to Neshoba Central at The Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson.
