BILOXI – The Biloxi Lady Indians dominated the vising Hancock Lady Hawks with stellar post play on the offensive end and intense ball pressure on the defensive end of the court, on their way to a 41-24 win in a non-district match-up on Tuesday.

Both teams entered the game without losses. The Lady Indians improved to 12-0 while the Lady Hawks record now has a loss at 13-1.

The Lady Indians held the visitors to a single point in the first period to take a 12-1 lead after one quarter of play. Both teams would score seven points in the second quarter. But once again, the Lady Indians would make the right adjustments at halftime and they would have a huge third quarter to pull away from the Lady Hawks in the period, leading 35-14 at the end of the period.

Zaniya Johnson would score 8 of her team’s 16 points in the third quarter as her teammates got the ball to her near the basket. She would add another 6 points in the final quarter.

“Go inside,” said Lady Indians coach Devin Hill. “We felt like that was our advantage. We feel like that’s our advantage most nights. We just challenged Zee to just be who she is – dominate the basketball game, and she took on that challenge.

“Hancock does a great job at digging the paint and sending double teams, so we talked about being patient when you get the basketball, making the right play,” said Hill. “Tonight the right play was scoring the basketball.”

Hancock would get within 12 points of the Lady Indians midway through the third quarter on a Jordan Bishop jump shot to trail 24-12, but that was as close as the scoring margin would get as the Lady Indians bolstered their lead from there.

“Biloxi didn’t allow us to do anything that we wanted to do tonight,” said Lady Hawks coach Jamie Sisco. “They dominated us on both ends of the court.”

The Lady Indians were led by Johnson with 18 points, followed by Aaliyah Davison with 8 points and Aubrey Hill and Nakenya Terry with 6 points each. Hancock was led by Caitlyn Ladner with 6 points and Cambria Necaise with 5 points.

Biloxi plays at Zachary on Friday. Hancock has a home game against St. Martin on Friday.
