WALKER, La. — Entering last week, a trio of prep girls basketball teams in the “Southern Six” were still undefeated with double digits in wins as the current campaign headed toward Christmas break.
But after a five day stretch of action, only one unbeaten remains standing.

The Biloxi Lady Indians moved to a perfect 14-0 win a pair of wins in the Baton Rouge, La., area over the weekend. Head coach Devin Hill’s troops started the week off with a big 41-24 win at home over then fellow undefeated Hancock before heading west across the state line to finish the pre-Christmas portion of the schedule off with wins in neighboring Louisiana on Friday night and Saturday morning.
“I thought our girls battled against some really good teams in the Baton Rouge area,” Hill said Saturday afternoon. “The second day was tough, having to play at 9:30 a.m.. after playing the night before.”
To wrap up play Saturday morning, Biloxi beat Baton Rouge Madison Prep 41-30 here at Walker High.
Standout sophomore Dandy Dozen center Zaniya Johnson paced the Lady Indians with a double-double outing as she posted 22 points and 14 rebounds while Harrison Central transfer Jayla Carriere chipped in 11 points and five rebounds to the winning effort. Aubrey Hill pulled down 10 boards for BHS also.

“I think we showed a lot of growth today,” Hill added. “Last year we would have found a way to give that game away. Today, I felt like we fought through our fatigue to beat a talented team in Madison Prep, who didn’t play the night before. I am super proud of our team, but excited to have a small break before going into our holiday classic next week.”
On Friday night, Biloxi continued its momentum from that win over Hancock by bouncing home-standing Zachary, La., 46-20.
Johnson also had a double-double in that win with 20 points and 11 boards, while Carriere had 11 points. Nakena Terry added seven rebounds and four steals to the winning cause, and Aliyah Davidson dished out five assists while Hill pulled down seven rebounds as well.

Also on Friday night, Hancock beat visiting St. Martin 45-38 to hand the Lady Yellow Jackets their first loss of the season.
Biloxi hosts its annual Lady Indian Christmas Classic beginning Thursday.
