MOSS POINT — Don’t look now, but Christmas arrives Wednesday with the Moss Point girls on a four game win streak.
The Lady Tigers, under the direction of veteran head coach Ethan Porter, streak into the holiday break with a 9-6 record after the four straight wins, including an easy 34-13 road decision over Long Beach Friday night to wrap up the pre-Christmas portion of the schedule.
“We feel good about getting some positive momentum going into Christmas break,” Porter said on Monday. “When we come back from break, we will be getting into the heart of our district schedule.”

Included in that current four game win streak is a win in Moss Point’s Region 8-4A opener. an exciting 35-34 decision over visiting Greene County 10 days ago.
The Lady Tigers trailed the Lady Wildcats 29-27 entering the fourth quarter, but rallied to outscore the visitors 8-5 in the final period to pull out the close contest.
Moss Point’s daring duo of Jordyn Ford and Landy Johnson both ended up in double digits in the decision, as Ford led the way with a game-high 15 points while Johnson chipped in 12 points to the winning effort. Johnson added five rebounds and four steals, while Ford and Kirsten Bailey also had four steals apiece as well.
The Lady Tigers followed that up with the aforementioned win over Long Beach late last week.
Ford and Johnson also led the way for MPHS in that win, as Ford scored 10 points and Johnson had nine points.

Moss Point has won nine out of its past 13 games after starting the season off at 0-2, and the current win streak started off with a 54-49 road win in Irvington, Ala., over Alma Bryant (Ala.) two weeks ago.
Ford tallied a game-high 18 points in that game, and Johnson added nine points and four steals. Landyn Miller pulled down a game-high nine rebounds for MPHS as well.
Porter’s troops followed that up with a big 40-34 home win over Class 7A foe Oak Grove, as Johnson scored 11 points, Ford added 10 points and Bailey had nine points. Johnson had seven boards and four steals, while Kaliyah Richardson had four steals and three assists.

“I think we’ve played a pretty tough schedule,” Porter, whose team beat Class 7A foe Ocean Springs 35-21 earlier this season, added. “We lost some games early that I thought we had chances to win. We had two overtime losses against good teams early on, and I think that made us better.”
In fact, the current win streak for MPHS could easily stand at seven straight and cover the entire month of December so far because after a 36-32 road loss to Class 7A foe D’Iberville to begin the month a 40-20 win over Mobile Williamson followed on Friday, Dec. 6th in which Ford scored 16 points and Bailey had 12 points.
The Lady Tigers fell in overtime to Gulf Shores 37-36 the next day in the “Gulf Coast HoopsFest” at St. Martin High.. Ford tallied 15 points and seven rebounds in that loss, while Richardson added eight points and seven boards as well and Johnson pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds in that game.
The win streak then started three days later, a successful span that Moss Point will carry into the annual Neshoba Central Christmas Tournament later this week.
