BILOXI — And then there was one…
The Biloxi girls basketball team will go into the new year as the only unbeaten basketball team in the “Southern Six” after taking a pair of wins over the weekend in their own eighth annual “Lady Indians Christmas Classic”.
Head coach Devin Hill’s crew moved to a perfect 16-0 on the season Saturday slipping past its second straight formidable foe from the state of Alabama in two days, pulling out a 34-30 win over Hewitt-Trussville.

Biloxi’s super sophomore Dandy Dozen center Zaniya Johnson once again led the way to the latest win with yet another double-double performance, as he tallied a game-high 21 points and pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.
Jayla Carriere had three assists, Na’Kenya Terry three steals and Aubrey Hill added five rebounds to the winning effort.
It marked the third straight year that the Lady Indians swept two games in their annual holiday affair.
On Friday night, to wrap up opening day play in the event, Biloxi knocked off Montgomery (Ala.) Park Crossing 45-38 in a hard-fought, back and forth battle.

The Lady Thunderbirds saw their season-opening 18 game win streak snapped.
Biloxi’s powerful sophomore inside-outside dynamic duo of Johnson and point guard Carriere dominated for the most part in that one, combining for 37 points total, just one point less than the opposing team combined.
Johnson led the way in the win for BHS, as she posted her 14th double-double of the season with 20 points and 11 rebounds. She also added four blocks. Carriere also posted a double-double, as she dropped in 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Terry added seven steals to the winning effort, and Hill dished out five assists while Aaliyah Davidson had three assists and three steals.

“Jayla and Zaniya both complement each other very well,” Hill added. “It’s hard to prepare a game plan for both of them! We are excited to have them both for two more years. They are also fortunate to have some unselfish teammates who don’t mind allowing them to flourish in their gifts. I’m most proud about that.”
The loss overshadowed the performance a bit of Park Crossing point guard Saniya Jackson who tallied a game-high 21 points and grabbed eight boards in the loss.
The Gulfport boys were 16-0 before losing to Starkville Saturday night. The Admirals were the only other unbeaten team in the “Southern Six”
