Each week until the first weekend in March at the overall state tournament in Jackson, SouthMiss6 Sports will be the place to be to keep up with the most complete and comprehensive info about all things prep basketball featuring stories and photos in the “Southern Six” counties of the state of Mississippi.
Each week we will take a look at at least five players and five games to keep an eye on as well as release our weekly “Super 7 in the Southern 6 Poll”.

Starting 5 in the “Southern 6
This week’s “Starting 5 in the Southern 6” players list is comprised of some of the area standouts that came up big for their respective teams last week in holiday tournament play.
- Anslee James, Hancock — The senior standout James was named MVP of the Lady Hawks’ 62-39 win over Canton in day one play at the annual “Jingle Balls Classic” at Madison Central High School as she tallied a game-high 23 points.
- Jujuan Nettles, Moss Point — The Tiger has been on a bit of a tear recently as he scored 16 points in Hattiesburg on Thursday afternoon as MPHS took down Class 7A foe Oak Grove in the first round of the annual Coca-Cola Christmas Classic.
- Paityn Langford, Long Beach — The talented Lady Bearcat freshman led LBHS to a 33-19 win over Gautier Saturday afternoon in the annual Bay High Christmas Tournament as she registered a double-double with a game-high 13 points and 11 rebounds.
- Jayla Carriere, Biloxi — The sophomore stalwart guard led the Lady Indians over fellow unbeaten Montgomery (Ala.) Park Crossing 45-38 in a hard-fought, back and forth battle Friday night in the final game of the opening day of the eighth annual Lady Indians Christmas Classic here at The Biloxi Sports Complex. Carriere recorded a double-double as dropped in 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Biloxi is 16-0 this year.
- Anthony Robinson, Bay High — Robinson sank a 3-pointer with 14 seconds left to give the Tigers the lead late in a 45-41 win over Long Beach in the Bay High Christmas tournament on Friday morning. He finished the game with a co-team high 14 points.

- D’Iberville at Pascagoula (boys ) — Friday at 7:30.
- St. Martin at Moss Point (girls) — Saturday at 2:00.
- Ocean Springs vs. Meridian (boys) — Saturday at 5 p.m. in the annual Panther Classic at Pascagoula High.
- Biloxi vs. Hattiesburg (boys) — Saturday at 7:00 in the annual Panther Classic at Pascagoula High.
