KILN —This week’s “Baria Law Firm Game Ball of the Week” goes to Hancock’s Anslee James as presented by SouthMiss6 Sports.

Every week throughout the end of the school year, we will honor student/athletes across the “Southern Six” with our “Game Ball of the Week” sponsored by David Baria, Attorney-Mediator.

James, a senior standout swing guard/forward, has helped her Lady Hawks get off to a solid 17-2 start this season in her final campaign at Hancock High.

She has been a steady force for the Lady Hawks for each of the past two seasons even after both her sophomore and junior years were ended prematurely due to knee injuries.

She has really made her mark of late, as she earned Most Valuable Player honors in an impressive 62-39 win over Canton in the opening round of the inaugural “Jungle Balls Classic” at Madison Central High School over the Christmas break.

The game turned into a duel between Lady Hawk senior standout Anslee James and Lady Tiger stalwart Shamira Morton.

James turned in a game-high 23 point work sheet while Morton led CHS with 19 points.

She followed that up with a game-high 13 point performance in a 42-25 thumping on the road of Gulfport late last week.

The Lady Hawks led just 14-11 with two minutes to go before halftime, but they pulled away from the Lady Admirals with just under two minutes remaining on the second quarter clock, sinking two 3-pointers during that span to take a 20-11 halftime lead.

Her classmate and fellow backcourt mate Talana Bond sank the first one, and James did the same thing on the Lady Hawks next possession to close out the second-quarter scoring with just under a minute and a half left in the period.

James then had 13 points in a solid 51-17 win over Long Beach in Region 4-6A play Tuesday night.

The Lady Hawks, the defending region champs, are off to a perfect 4-0 start in league play in defense of their crown and host West Harrison in a battle for the top spot in the region race Friday night
