PICAYUNE — The Pascagoula girls puled out a thrilling road win over home-standing Picayune in Region 4-6A play Friday night.

The Lady Panthers slipped past the Lady Tide 43-42 at Kelly Wise Gym. The decision snapped a short two game league losing streak for Pascagoula, as the Lady Panthers move to 9-8 overall and 3-2 in the region race. The Lady Tide sit at 9-10 overall and fall a game behind Pascagoula at 2-3 in the league standings as each team reaches the mid-way point of the region schedule.

Pascagoula trailed 34-29 entering the fourth quarter before rallying to pull out the win by out-scoring Picayune 14-8 in the final frame.

Nia Cook and Samaha Johnson combined for 12 of the 14 Lady Panther points down the stretch, as Cook tallied seven in the last stanza and Johnson added five points including a 3-pointer. Alorah Phillips also had a field goal for the visitors in that period as every basket counted in the winning rally.

Picayune rolled up a slight 21-19 advantage at halftime, thanks to six points from Laikyn Moore and five points from Rhyen Goss including a trey. Clear Steward kept Pascagoula within striking distance in the first half with five points, including with a 3-pointer of her own, in the first period. Cook had four points in the opening frame as well

The Lady Tide slowly and steadily stretched their lead as the third period unfolded, out-scoring Pascagoula 13-10 in the quarter thanks in part to five points from Madilyn Plummer as both she and Amaiya Graves drained a 3-pointer apiece.

The Lady Panthers got five points from Symerica Parter in the quarter, but still trailed by that aforementioned 34-29 deficit heading into that climactic fourth and final frame.

Cook paced Pascagoula with a game-high 13 points, while Johnson added eight points to the winning effort.

Goss scored nine points for Picayune, while Moore and Plummer added eight points apiece.

Both teams remain in region play next, as Picayune travels to West Harrison and Pascagoula hosts Long Beach. Both games are set for Tuesday night.
