BILOXI — The Biloxi girls suffered a setback for the first time this season Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Indians fell to visiting Booker T. Washington of Pensacola, Fla., 32-25 in the penultimate game of the “Lady Indians Super Saturday Showdown” here at the Biloxi Sports Arena. The loss drops Biloxi to 20-1 on the season, and snapped the impressive 20-game win streak that started the season for head coach Devin Hill’s crew.

“We just didn’t have a good game,” Hill said. “And against a good team like BTW, you have to bring it. I feel like for the second straight night, we were off our game. Hopefully, we can get a good day of practice on Monday and get back to who we are. Now that went don’t have to deal with the stress of perfection, hopefully we can play freely and do the things we have done to get to this point.”

The game shaped up as a battle between a pair of standout post products, as Biloxi 6-foot-4 sophomore Dandy Dozen center Zaniya Johnson matched-up with junior four star prospect Chamiah Francis, a 6-foot-3 center/forward stalwart for Booker T. Washington.

Johnson finished the contest with 11 points, six rebounds and two assists while Francis was limited to just eight points but had nine rebounds also.

Instead, Francis’ Lady Wildcat teammate Jada Clardy tallied a game-high 15 points, including nine in an all-important third frame, to led BTW to the big win.

Coming off of a big 40-36 Region 4-7A road win over arch-rival Gulfport Friday night, Biloxi couldn’t carry that momentum over to the next day as the Lady Indians struggled offensively all game but still trailed just 15-11 at halftime.

But Clardy’s key third quarter worksheet continued to turn the tide in favor of the Lady Wildcats as they kept Biloxi at bay and headed into the fourth frame up 26-20.

Clardy then added four points down the stretch as Booker T. Washington held on for the win.

The point totals from Clardy and Francis topped BTW. Johnson’s 11 points led the Lady Indians and Aaliyah Davidson added seven points for BHS.

The win helped the Lady Wildcats avenge an earlier season 40-36 loss to Biloxi in Pensacola in early December. In that game, Francis had 14 points but Biloxi sophomore sharp-shooter Jayla Carriere tallied a game-high 17 points.

Carriere was limited to just three points on Saturday on a single trey.
