D’IBERVILLE — The D’Iberville boys host Ocean Springs Tuesday night in what could turn out to be a key Region 4-7A showdown before its all said and done.

The Warriors come in with four wins in their past five outings, including a 47-44 road win over St. Martin Friday night in league play.

The decision moved DHS, under the direction of first-year head coach Eric Vianney, to 15-6 overall but just as importantly to 2-3 in the region race. The Greyhounds, who are coming off of a win of their own in league play with a 51-49 road win over Harrison Central, currently sit in third place in the region race at 3-2.

In St. Martin on Friday, the contest was close throughout as the Yellow Jackets led slightly at 19-18 at halftime thanks to eight first half points including a 3-pointer by point guard Jaxson Walker.

But the Warriors bounced back to out-score the home team 18-15 in a more explosive third frame, thanks in part to a pair of treys from Steph Suszczyk, and DHS wrestled the lead away at 36-34 entering the fourth frame.

Suszczyk was right back at it in the final period, again draining two triples, and Juan Santiago added five points as D’Iberville staved St. Martin off to pick up the close win.

Suszczyk paced DHS to the win with 14 points while Santiago chipped in 11 points to the winning effort.

Walker tallied a game-high 17 points for St. Martin and Trey Adams added 10 points.

St. Martin fell to 15-7 overall and 1-4 in league play.

Meanwhile, in Lyman Friday night, the win by Ocean Springs not only kept it in third place in region play but also moved the Greyhounds to 9-10 overall as well.

The win snapped a four game losing streak for second year head coach Collin Goley’s crew. The Red Rebels drop to 0-5 in league play and sit at 7-12 overall.

“I’m pleased with where we are, we still control our own destiny having to play each team again one more time,” Goley said. “We just have to take it one day at time and continue to get better.”

With Ocean Springs up 50-48 with just seven seconds to play, the Greyhounds fouled Red Rebel senior sharp-shooter Shaun Murray on a 3-point attempt.

Murray, however, made just one-of-three attempts from the free throw line in a sequence that could have given the home team the lead.

Now ahead by just one point at 50-49, Christian Cowan of OSHS was fouled in the aftermath and he sank one of two free throws resulting in the final score.

A last-second heave from mid-court by HCHS as the clock sounded that missed the mark secured the win for the Greyhounds.

Greyhound Dandy Dozen senior standout Maddox Noblitt poured in a game-high 24 points to lead OSHS to the win, while Cowan added 10 points to the winning cause. Noblitt also had eight rebounds, four steals and three assists in an impressive overall performance, while Easton Bahr dished out a trio of assists as well.

Murray paced the Red Rebels with 17 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, and five rebounds. Nehemiah Barnett added 15 points and five rebounds, while Karmelo Laneaux grabbed five boards also and Jordan Beard had three steals.
