GULFPORT —This week’s “Baria Law Firm Game Ball of the Week” goes to West Harrison’s Sydnei Barber as presented by SouthMiss6 Sports.

Every week throughout the end of the school year, we will honor student/athletes across the “Southern Six” with our “Game Ball of the Week” sponsored by David Baria, Attorney-Mediator.

Barber a 5-fooot-10 junior standout swing guard/forward, has helped her Lady ‘Canes get off to an impressive 20-2 start this season and a 5-1 mark in Region 4-6A play.

She has been a steady force for West Harrison head coach Patty Norwood and her squad the past couple of seasons but has really begun to come into her own in her junior campaign as evidenced by her big outing last week in region play against Pascagoula.

Barber poured in a career-high and game-high 43 points to pace the Lady ‘Canes over the home-standing Lady Panthers 63-35. She drained four 3-pointers among her 16 total field goals and she also went eight-of-10 from the free throw line on her worksheet. She also had six rebounds and five steals in the outstanding performance.

She also became West Harrison’s all-time leading scorer and eclipsed the magical 1,000 career point plateau earlier last month.

Also recently, in a 69-33 thumping of George County in league play, the Lady ‘Canes wasted no time in taking complete command of the contest behind Barber.

Barber tallied 17 first half points including six in the first quarter to get WHHS off to a fast start and a 22-5 lead entering the second stanza. Her 11 points in the next stanza included two more treys and a trio of free throws, en route to a game-high 24 point performance that included four treys total as she sat out most of the second half.
