PASCAGOULA — Monday night, the Hancock girls basketball team recorded their 23rd win in a campaign for the third straight season.

Now, on Tuesday night, the Lady Hawks can also clinch the region championship for the third straight year as week.

Hancock dispatched home-standing Pascagoula 52-35 to notch its 21st straight win in Region 4-6A play. The decision moves the Lady Hawks of veteran head coach Jamie Sisco to a perfect 9-0 in league play as well as an impressive 23-2 overall.

Sisco’s kids wrap up both regular season and region play at home Tuesday night against West Harrison. The Lady Hawks have already clinched a berth in the upcoming Class 6A South State playoffs due to the fact that they have assured themselves of at least a top two seed in next week’s Region 4-6A Tournament which they will host.

A win over the visiting Lady ‘Canes would complete Hancock’s second straight campaign at 10-0 in the region race.

Hancock’s Riley Bishop made sure her squad would remain unbeaten in the region race right off the bat Monday night as she tallied 11 first quarter points including a trio of 3-pointers as the Lady Hawks wasted no time in jumping out to a quick and commanding 19-7 lead entering the second period.

Senior standout Anslee James dropped in seven second period points for HHS, including a trey, and Lila Turner buried a triple of her own as the Lady Hawks cruised into halftime ahead 33-17 and never looked back.

Bishop drained two more 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, and finished with a game-high 17 points for Hancock and James chipped in 15 points to the winning effort.

Samaha Johnson paced PHS with 12 points while Khyliah Moore added 10 points for the Lay Panthers.

Pascagoula remains at home to face Picayune in region play Tuesday night.
