VANCLEAVE — The East Central girls recently snapped a four game losing streak in action over the weekend.
On Tuesday night, the Lady Hornets began a win streak of their own.
East Central completed a season sweep over arch-rival Vancleave with a 38-29 road win over the Lady Bulldogs in Region 4-5A action. The victory pushed ECHS to 4-4 in the region race and to 9-7 overall. It marked the second straight win for ECHS after it beat league foe Stone 43-33 over the weekend to stop a four game region losing streak.



The Lady Hornets crashed “Senior Night” for the Lady Bulldogs, as Vancleave fell to 0-7 in the region race and 5-17 overall with the loss.
However, the home team took the lead early in the contest as Heaven Washington dropped in five points in the first frame including a 3-pointer as VHS took a slight 8-7 lead at the end of the period.
The two teams battled on almost even terms in the second quarter and arrived at halftime tied up at 13-13.
Breyona Tanner tallied all eight of East Central’s points in the third frame, while Nadiya Whittle had six of Vancleave’s eight points in the period and the game was still knotted up at 21-21 entering the final quarter.



It would be the fourth frame when the visitors turned the tide in their favor, as Breyona Tanner scored seven points including a 3-pointer and Olivia Tanner added six points down the stretch as East Central pulled out the win.
Breyona Tanner poured in a game-high 20 points to pace the Lady Hornets while Olivia Tanner added eight points to the winning effort.
Washington and Whittle scored nine points apiece for the Lady Bulldogs.




East Central thumped Vancleave at home six weeks ago 53-29.
The Region 4-5A Tournament is set for Stone High next week.
