Prep Basketball: Pearl River Central hosting Region 3-6A tourney with both teams in action Monday

CARRIERE — Both Pearl River Central basketball teams are hosting the Region 3-6A tournaments this week.
The Blue Devils and their female counterparts just hope they can each stick around to see more than a liitle action than just on the opening day.
The annual affair tips off Monday night, and both of the host teams will be featured in elimination games before the red beans and rice gets warm in the hospitality room.
The PRC boys enter the event coming off of a big road win late last week with a 42-24 win over St. Patrick.

The Blue Devils jumped out to a quick 9-4 lead after the first frame thanks to a 3-pointer apiece from the Feaster brothers, J.J. and Titus.
PRC’s Jack Jenkins scored seven points in the second stanza, including a trey, and Konnor Casnave added five points including a triple of his own as the Blue Devils blew the game open just before halftime out-scoring St. Patrick 15-5 to head into intermission with a double digit advantage at 24-9.
Cazenave added five more points, including another 3-pointer, in the third frame and PRC coasted to the win.
Casnave’s 10 points paced PRC in the decision, while big man Dawson Kennedy added nine points to the winning effort and both Jenkins and J.J. Feaster had seven points apiece for PRC.

Liam Buchanan scored 10 points to lead the Fighting Irish, including a pair of 3-pointers.
The Blue Devils need a win over Jackson Forrest Hill at home Monday night in order to keep their season alive. That game is set for 8:30, and to follow the game set for 6 p.m., which features the PRC girls against Hattiesburg.
The Lady Devils fell to St. Patrick Thursday 36-26.
Alex Patino paced SPHS with a game-high 11 points, while Natalie Gordon added eight points to the winning effort and Meredith Eleuterius had a pair of 3-pointers as well.
Carey Miller drained a trio of treys for PRC to finish with nine points, while Gabrielle Moore finished with six points and half of those came on a trey.
Both SPHS boys and girls don’t play again until Thursday in Tylertown in the Region 8-3A Tournament.
