CARRIERE —This week’s “Baria Law Firm Game Ball of the Week” goes to Dawson Kennedy of Pearl River Central as presented by SouthMiss6 Sports.

Every week throughout the end of the school year, we will honor student/athletes across the “Southern Six” with our “Game Ball of the Week” sponsored by David Baria, Attorney-Mediator.

The senior post product Kennedy was a big reason why the Blue Devils earned a rare trip to the Class 6A South State basketball playoffs this week as PRC upset Jackson Forrest Hill at home 37-29 in the opening round of the Region 3-6A Tournament.

Kennedy scored seven points and helped control the boards on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court in the big win. In addition, he scored nine points and grabbed nine rebounds in a 42-24 road win late last week in the regular season finale for both teams. Pearl River Central was then able to carry that momentum over to Monday and capture that win over the Patriots to extend Kennedy’s playing career by at least three more games.

Then, after helping his Blue Devils secure that trip to the playoffs, the multi-sport standout Kennedy signed a football scholarship with Pearl River Community College on Wednesday.

The 6-foot-4, 260-pound lineman was selected Class 6A All-State last season and also helped guide the Blue Devils to an opening round playoff spot on the gridiron as well.

For his play last season, he was picked to play for the South Squad in the annual Bernard Blackwell North/South All-Star Football game.

Back on the hardwood, PRC and Kennedy face Jackson Jim Hill Thursday night in the consolation contest at the Region 3-6A Tournament.
