GULFPORT — The Harrison Central girls finished third in Region 4-7A in first-year head coach Sandra Rushing’s initial season.

Harrison Central knocked off home-standing Gulfport 61-46 late last week in the consolation contest of the league tournament here at Bert Jenkins Gym. Both teams will hit the road this week to open the upcoming Class 7A South State playoffs. Harrison Central heads to Brandon and the Lady Admirals sail into Northwest Rankin. Both games are set for Friday night.

Thursday night, Harrison Central’s Saniyah Murray tallied 20 points in the middle two quarters, including 13 in the second stanza, as the visitors turned an 18-15 deficit after the first quarter into a 51-36 advantage heading into the final period.

Murray poured in a game-high 26 points to lead HCHS to the win, while Rhianna Anderson chipped in 15 points and Autumn Keeler added 10 points.

M.J. Avery had 13 points to guide Gulfport, while Kamyra Rockingham added 10 points for the Lady Admirals and Ashlyn Casey had eight points.

The top two teams in the Region 4-7A Tournament open the state playoffs at home Friday night, as Biloxi hosts Oak Grove Friday night at 7 p.m., and St. Martin hosts Meridian Thursday night at 6 p.m.
