PASCAGOULA —Jackson County rivals Pascagoula and St. Martin faced off on the baseball diamond for the first and only time this season Tuesday night.

And the visiting Yellow Jackets rallied for a trio of runs over the final three frames here at Tillman Field to pull out a 5-4 win.

With the win, St. Martin moved to 3-0 so far on the young season while the Panthers drop to 2-2.

Pascagoula tallied three runs in the bottom of the fourth to overcome a 2-1 deficit and take a 4-2 lead before the Yellow Jackets bounced back with a solo run in the fifth frame and two more in the top of the sixth to pull out the win.

Down those two aforementioned runs, Noah Jenner set St. Martin’s winning comeback rally in motion with an RBI-single in the top of the fifth to make it 4-3.

Then, after the Panthers went down in order in the bottom of the inning, the Yellow Jackets continued coming with a run-scoring fielders choice from Warren Jalanivich to tie the game up at 4-4 and Dax Coggin followed with an RBI-sacrifice bunt that plated Gavin Nitcavic with the game-winning run.

Both teams scored a run in the first frame, as St. Martin’s Jace Jones walked and later scored on a PHS error while the Panthers responded with an RBI-single by Johan Baez.

The Yellow Jackets took a brief 2-1 lead in the fourth on a run-scoring fielder’s choice off the bat of Nitcavic.

But the Panthers bounced right back with that three spot in the bottom of the inning with the big blow being a two-run single by Knute Robinson. Willie Sims then gave PHS a brief 4-2 lead setting up the climactic final few frames.
