OCEAN SPRINGS — Ocean Springs doesn’t begin Region 4-7A play for another couple of weeks.
But, if Monday night was any indication, Greyhound ace pitcher Jack Jordan is armed and ready for the region race.
Jordan twirled a complete game three-hit shutout as home-standing Ocean Springs blanked Stone 4-0 at Greyhound Field. The win moves OSHS to 5-2 overall, and came on the heels of a 4-2 win over Pascagoula over the weekend.
Jordan moved to 2-1 with the win, as he struck out seven and walked just one in going the distance.

“Kinda became the norm with him, he’s the ultimate competitor and he prepares day in and day out the same way.” OSHS second year head coach Ryne Long said. “It’s hard for any pitcher to maintain the level of consistency he shows and that’s a testament to his work ethic and approach to every game. He fills up the zone and throws all pitches for strikes in any count. It’s really fun to watch, he doesn’t forget any pitch from previous at bats. He knows exactly what each hitter did their previous at bats and is usually thinking several pitches ahead at any time. Him and our senior catcher Jeremy Korn have done a great job so far, and we’ve played solid defense behind him.”

With Jordan displaying his dominance on the mound, it took the Greyhounds only one at bat to provide him with all the offensive production he would need as Cannon Hensarling led off the bottom of the first frame with a solo home run to right field giving the Greyhounds a quick 1-0 that they would never relinquish.
Just for good measure, OSHS added two more runs in the second stanza as A.J. Arguelo singled and came around to score on a wild pitch. Two batters later, pinch runner Easton Barr crossed the plate after an out was recorded in a run down at second base.

The home team plated one more insurance run in the fourth frame, when LaBaron Brumfield reached on a Tomcat fielding error and later scored on an RBI-sacrifice fly off the bat of Jayvon Williams to make it 4-0.
The Greyhounds also managed only three hits in picking up the win, with Hensarling’s solo shot the key blow.
Stone’s Jhase Jackson started and took the tough luck loss. He also collected a double to place the Tomcats at the plate, as they fell to 1-5 overall on the young campaign.
