Here is our daily update as “Battle of the Beach” enters Day 5:
GULFPORT — Home-standing Gulfport moved to 2-1 in “Battle at the Beach” play Monday night.
The Admirals played their third straight home game here at Herbert Wilson in the annual affair over a five day span and nipped Grenada 4-3 in walk-off fashion. The win was the second straight in BATB action and third in the past four overall outings for GHS, as new head coach Justin Edwards’ team moved to 6-4 overall.
With the game knotted up at 3-3 with one out in the bottom of the seventh, Admiral Davis Ormes singled home James Van Slyke with the winning run. Van Slyke opened the stanza with a lead off walk.

The timely knock completed the comeback for the home team after Grenada led 2-0 after the first frame.
“I thought it was a very gritty effort against a tough opponent,” Edwards, who guided Vancleave to the Class 5A state title last season, said. “We found ourselves down early and we did a heck of a job staying focused on the job at hand.”
Tolar Raybourn was the “Big Man on Campus” for the Admirals Monday night, as he led GHS at the plate with a two run homer as well as an RBI-double that turned that early 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth frame.
The Chargers then tied things up at 3-3 in the top of the sixth stanza on a run-scoring double by Eli Palmer. Ty Edwards also had a run-scoring double in the first frame for Grenada, and he also stole home for the second run.

Raybourn worked almost six full innings on the mound, before giving way to Thomas Stennis who picked up the win thanks to the walk-off heroics by his teammate Davis. Raybourn scattered just three hits and struck out six.
Edwards took the loss in almost two innings of work.
Gulfport hosts Clinton Tuesday night.

Elsewhere, in other BATB action Monday night, Edwards’ former team Vancleave thumped Class 7A foe Starkville 16-8 at home after overcoming an early 7-0 deficit with 12 runs in the bottom of the sixth stanza.
Aidan Tapp paced the Bulldogs with a career-high four hits to lead the winning 15 hit attack. Martin Shaw chipped in three hits and drove in two runs, while Hunter Harper added two hits including a double and drove in three runs. Dane McElory also had two hits, including a double, and drove in a pair of runs while Wyatt Adams drove in two runs as well.
Starkville starting pitcher Tyson know seemed set to take the win after coming out of the contest working five full frames, allowing four runs before a trio of YellowJacket relievers completely lost grasp of the game.

Also on Monday night, home-standing Ocean Springs and Jackson Prep ended up in a 3-3 deadlock after four frames. the game ended when a transformer blew and knocked out a significant portion of the lights at Greyhound Field.
