LUCEDALE — George County gave up 11 runs Tuesday night and still managed to rally for a late win.

Two days later, the defending Class 6A state champions allowed a season-high 12 runs, and this time weren’t near as lucky.

Perennial state Class 4A power Sumrall smacked the Rebels 12-2 in just five frames here during “Battle at the Beach” play at Claude Passeau Field. The loss dropped George County to 5-6 overall.

Sumrall’s domination was so thorough that the Bobcats scored in every inning and dropped three spots in the first, third and fifth frames.

Ben Davis had a pair of hits, including a double, to lead the Rebels while Tripp Lightsey drove in the lone run for GCHS.

Landon Hawkins had two hits and a game-high two RBIs for Sumrall.

Rebel ace Preston McAdory lasted just two innings and took the loss allowing five runs, but his teammates did him no favors at all committing four errors in the game.

Bobcat hurler Drew Davis went the shortened distance to pick up the win, striking out eight in the process.

George County has one more date in BATB play as it faces St. John Neumann from Naples, Fla., Friday night at Biloxi High.

Sumrall heads to Ocean Springs Friday night to face the Greyhounds.

Elsewhere in BATB action Thursday night, visiting Oak Forrest (La.) Academy dumped D’Iberville 8-2.

Ayden Demoran had two hits and drove in a run for the Warriors. Conner Smith took the pitching loss.

Kaul Perkins had a home run for OFAHS.

Cole Covington went the distance for the YellowJackets to earn the pitching win.

D’Iberville hosts its third straight game in BATB play Friday night as it hosts Northeast Jones.

Also on Thursday night, both Biloxi and Gulfport picked up wins at home as the Indians beat Lafayette 5-3 and the Admirals nipped Briarcrest Christian 1-0.
