BILOXI — Picayune ran its win streak to six Friday night.

The Maroon Tide blanked St. Martin 4-0 here at Keesler Federal Park in one of the final games at the ninth annual “Battle at the Beach”. The win pushes Picayune to an impressive 11-2 on the season, while the Yellow Jackets drop to 8-4 overall.

Maroon Tide senior starting pitcher Colt Robertson was in complete control on the mound all evening, as he twirled a five-hit, complete game shutout to pick up the win striking out seven and walking just one in the process.

“We got some timely hits tonight and Colt was really good for us,” Picayune head coach Evan Nichelson said He gives us a shot to win each night he has the ball.”

Picayune broke open a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third frame and gave Robertson all the support he would need with an RBi-double to left from Cooper Moreaux.

Two innings later, Turner Pugh produced the same results for the Maroon Tide as his run-scoring double doubled the lead to 2-0.

Picayune sealed the win in a chaotic sixth stanza as two runs scored when a ground ball off of the bat of Justin Stockstill was mis-played by the Yellow Jacket infield into an error to complete the results at 4-0.

Moreaux and Parker Helton each collected two hits apiece to pace Picayune at the plate.

Cameron Romero had two hits for St. Martin.

Rivers Groue started and worked five frames to take the pitching loss.

Both squads now looks forward to region play which begins next week.

“It’s always good to have some positive momentum heading into district play,” Nichelson concluded.
