OCEAN SPRINGS — Ocean Springs may be playing its best baseball of the season as Region 4-7A play starts this week.

The Greyhounds, under the guidance of second-year head coach Ryne Long, are coming off an unbeaten week last week in the annual “Battle of the Beach” as OSHS won three straight games and stands 9-3-1 overall as they head to Biloxi Tuesday night.

On Friday night, after going 2-0-1 in BATB play, OSHS got one of its most impressive wins of the season blanking perennial state power Sumrall 11-0 in just five innings.

Nicholls State signee Cannon Hensarling proved exactly why the Colonels and other collegiate programs were vying for his services as he came up big at both the plate and on the mound against the visiting Bobcats. Hensarling went 3-for-3 offensively with three singles and hed drove in three runs. He went the distance on the hill, tossing the shortened game no-hitter and striking out eight while walking just one in earning the win.

After Jack Jordan gave the Greyhounds a quick 1-0 lead in the first frame with an RBI-single, OSHS basically put the game away with a six spot in the second stanza to take a commanding 7-0 advantage.

The Greyhounds loaded the bases with no outs before Hensarling delivered his first RBI-single. Two more runs scored on a ball off the bat of A.J. Arguello that the Bobcats misplayed into an error, and then Justin San Miguel followed with a run-scoring single to make it 5-0. Adam Clower’s run-scoring single put the lead at 6-0, and Jordan scored on a wild pitch to end the uprising.

A four run rally with two outs in the bottom of the fourth ended things prematurely. Hensarling’s two-run single was the big blow in the frame for OSHS.

Both Arguello and Clower added two hits apiece to the winning effort, while Arguello also had two RBIs.

The Greyhounds started the BATB off with a 3-3 tie with Jackson Prep in a game that was called off due to a power outage at the field. They then followed that up with a a 3-0 win over St. John Neumann of Naples, Fla., as well as a 7-3 win over Oxford before smacking Sumrall around.
