BILOXI — Ocean Springs earned the top seed last season in the first-ever Region 4-7A race.

And, if early indications are correct this year, the Greyhounds seem intent on duplicating that feat once again.

Ocean Springs completed a dominating three game sweep of Biloxi in the Region 4-7A opening series for both teams Saturday with a 5-1 win over the Indians here at The Biloxi High Sports Complex.

The win was the sixth straight for second year head coach Ryne Long’s Greyhounds, who are also unbeaten in their last seven games. Ocean Springs moves to 12-3-1 overall, while BHS falls to 6-8 overall.

“It’s always good to start out the division on a high note, especially against a team like Biloxi.” Long said. “We had some guys step up and contribute in big ways, and that’s a testament to the work they put in. We have a great group of kids, and we’re proud of the effort this week.”

Ocean Springs, which never trailed in the three game series, again took a 1-0 lead it would never relinquish Saturday afternoon as Adam Clower’s RBI-single with one out in the top of the first made it 1-0.

That score remained until the fifth frame, when the Greyhounds doubled their lead to 2-0 when Cannon Hensarling walked and later scored on a passed ball.

The Indians plated their only run in the bottom of that inning to keep things close, on an RBI-ground out off the bat of Tristan Haynes.

However, a three run seventh stanza, which included an RBI-double from Justin San Miguel and an RBI-single apiece from both Jeremy Korn and Clower, sealed the win for OSHS.

Korn had a game-high three hits and drove in a run for OSHS, while Clower had two hits and drove in two runs in the winning attack. A.J. Arguello and Jack Jordan had two hits apiece, and San Miguel had that RBI-double.

Gage Dalfers had two hits, including a double, for the Indians.

Hensarling, a Nicholls State signee, went the distance on the mound for the Greyhounds striking out 12 and walking none while scattering four hits to pick up the win.

“I thought we played well this week,” Long added. “We swung the bats better and pitching was solid all week. I was proud of the way our guys competed.”

On Friday night, coming off the heels of an impressive 18-3 win on Tuesday in game one, OSHS thumped Biloxi again 11-1 in just five frames for the second straight game.

In game two, Ocean Springs tallied a season-high 19 hits in just those five at bats. A.J. Arguello collected a game-high four hits for OSHS while Jack Jordan and Cannon Hensarling had three hits apiece. Lucas Sinopoli, Jeremy Korn, A.J. Rossi and Justin San Miguel each added two hits apiece for the Greyhounds as Jordan, Hensarling and San Miguel each had a double.

San Miguel tallied a game-high five RBIs, while Jordan, Rossi and Adam Clower each drove in two runs apiece.

Tristen Fox went the distance on the hill to pick up the win for OSHS.

Shawn Miguel Gollott took the loss for BHS.
