WIGGINS — Stone got off to kind of a rough start in Region 4-5A play last week.
The Tomcats dropped two of three games to Wayne County in the league opening series for both teams. The War Eagles took advantage of the homefield edge as they won both games in Waynesboro, including a 10-4 decision in the rubber match on Saturday.

In that game, Hudsen Miles had a team-high and co-game-high three hits for WCHS and Jacob Bowles drove in a game-high three runs.
For Stone, Jhase Jackson had a team-high and co-game-high three hits while Jayden Collins cracked a solo home run. Both Carter Williams and Nolan Scott each had two RBIs apiece for Stone.
Jackson took the pitching loss.

The Tomcats also got a solo home run out of Collins in game one on Tuesday on the road, but fell 10-8.
Stone managed to pick up an impressive 12-4 win at home Friday night. The Tomcats broke open a 5-5 tie with seven runs in the bottom of the sixth stanza.
Jackson and Brandon Jones each drove in a pair of runs apiece for Stone.
Kellan Burge, one of three SHS pitchers, picked up the win.
Stone faces East Central in a three game Region 4-6A series this week, starting Tuesday night in Wiggins.
The Hornets are 0-3 in the region race after being swept by Vancleave last week.
Also in Region 4-5A play last week, Gautier swept three games easily from Laurel leaving the gators and Bulldogs both atop the region race at 3-0 with Wayne County in third at 2-1 and Stone in fourth at 1-2 while both ECHS and Laurel sit at 0-3 after one week of league play.
