Poplarville bombed Bay High 17-1 in four innings Tuesday night in Region 8-4A play.

The win moves the Hornets to 3-1 and they remain in second place in the region race behind Greene County, which is 6-0. Bay High drops to 0-7 in league play.

A pair of players that helped guide Poplarville to the Class 4A state championship on the football field last season led the way at the plate Tuesday night, as both Tylan Keys and Jeremiah Moss had two hits apiece and Moss drove in two runs. Chase Sones had a two-run double, while a pair of freshman in Trac Smith and Jett Smith drove in two runs apiece as well in the winning effort.

Sones picked up the pitching win.

Tryston Alford had two hits for the Tigers. Brennan Bilich started and suffered the pitching loss.

Meanwhile, in other Region 8-4A play Tuesday night, Pass Christian took another step in securing one of the top four seeds in the league standings as the Pirates knocked off Moss Point 9-2.

Brendan Necaise had a triple and a double for PCHS and also drove in two runs while Landon Necaise also had two hits and drove in a pair of runs in the winning effort. Both Zachary Henderson and Will Weatherly had a double each for the Pirates as well.

Aiden Mitchell picked up the pitching win.

KeVon Ford had three hits, including a double for Moss Point, and he drove in both Tiger runs while Jevonte Penny also had three hits including a triple for MPHS.

Aiden Evans took the pitching loss.

Pass pushes its region record to 5-2, while MPHS drops to 0-4.
