D’IBERVILLE— Don’t look now, but Harrison Central sits just one game out of first place one game into the second week of Region 4-7A play.

The Red Rebels moved to 3-1 in the region race with a 5-3 win on the road over D’Iberville Tuesday night. Harrison Central is tied in the league standings with Gulfport, which is also 3-1, and both are one game behind Ocean Springs.

In the latest win, the Red Rebels never trailed turning an early 1-0 lead after the first frame into a 4-1 advantage in the top of the fourth.

Harrison Central got an RBI-single from Bryan Travis in the first frame and Tre Hanshaw singled and came around to score on an error in the third to make it 2-0.

After DHS got a run-scoring ground out from Caleb West in its half of the third to cut the deficit to 2-1, Hanshaw drove in a run in the top of the fourth and Logan Barefoot added an RBI-single to make it 4-1 HCHS.

The Warriors got an RBI-single from Reyse Ladner in the fourth, and HCHS responded with Barefoot’s RBI-single in the sixth to make it 5-2.

Carter Naron’s RBI-single in the seventh for DHS completed the count.

Jayden Cooper, Barefoot and Bubba Harris each had two hits apiece for the Red Rebels, with one of the hits from Harris a double. Barefoot’s two RBI’s were a game-high.

Naron led DHS at the plate with two hits.

Jaxson Moore went the distance on the mound for HCHS to take the in, allowing seven hits and striking out six.

West took the loss for DHS.

Harrison Central will now host the final two games of the series on Thursday night and Friday night.

Meanwhile, in Gulfport Tuesday night Biloxi got its first region win and in the process handed arch-rival Gulfport its first league loss Tuesday night with a 5-4 win in eight innings.

Will Parker’s RBI-single in the extra frame provided the game-winning run for the Indians.

Wyatt Pyron not only started on the mound and worked the first seven stanzas for Biloxi, but he registered a key two-run double as well as the Indians fought back from an early 4-1 deficit.

Brody Nguyen came on in the eighth to earn the pitching win. The duo combined to limit the Admirals to just four hits.

Davis Ormes had two hits, including an RBI-triple in the first for Gulfport. He scored on.a passed ball to make it 2-0. Owen bellanger had two hits for GHS as well, including a two-run double that put the Admirals up 4-1 in the bottom of the third.

Thomas Stennis, the third of a trio of Gulfport hurlers, took the loss.

The two teams meet in Biloxi Thursday night and again in Gulfport Friday night.
