BILOXI — A key Region 4-7A series takes place this week and it just happens to pit a pair of longtime neighborhood rivals against one another.

Biloxi hosts D’Iberville in game one of a three game series to kick off week three of league play Tuesday night. Both the Indians and Warriors stand at 2-4 in the region race after two weeks of play.

Those two teams join St. Martin at 2-4 in the league standings, while Harrison Central sits in third place at 3-3. Ocean Springs leads the region race at 5-1, while Gulfport sits in the second slot at 4-2.

The top four teams at the end of regular season play qualify for the upcoming Class 7A South State playoffs. That’s what makes this series between Biloxi and D’Iberville so important.

Also, both the Warriors and Indians arrived at their current marks in the same fashion, as both got swept in three games in week one of league play before bouncing back last week to take two of three games.

D’Iberville dropped game one against the Red Rebels last week before storming back to take game two on Thursday and game three on Friday after being swept by Gulfport in week one.

“Coming into the series we felt like we were really close to getting out of our slump,” DHS head coach Brent Martin said. “We played Gulfport really well for two out of three and just couldn’t get the big hit late in the game. Game one against Harrison Central was a really good game and their guy threw it well. We had some opportunities but just didn’t make it happen. I give our guys all the credit in the world for responding Thursday and Friday. I was pretty tough on them Tuesday night after the loss and challenged them. They responded well. It was great to take the series and keep us in the hunt for the post season.”

Biloxi, on the other hand, got swept by league-leading Ocean Springs in week one at the same time Gulfport was sweeping D’Iberville. However, the Indians bounced back to take two out of three from the arch-rival Admirals last week to pull into that three-way tie for fourth place in the region race.

In other action in Region 4-7A this week, Gulfport is facing St. Martin while Harrison Central meets Ocean Springs.
