D’IBERVILLE — The next “Southern Six” Senior Spotlight sponsored by Reese’s of the school year is Cannon Wilson of D’Iberville.

Each week throughout the school year, we here at SouthMiss6 Sports will highlight a senior student/athlete in the “Southern Six” to honor.

The versatile senior stalwart Wilson has helped lead the Warriors to three straight wins in Region 4-7A as DHS has gotten back into the region race over the past week.

Entering the week, the Warriors were coming off two wins over Harrison Central last week to wrap up that series before taking on longtime rival Biloxi on Tuesday.

The two teams were knotted up at 6-6 entering the final frame of regulation play Tuesday night, but Wilson delivered a two-out, two-run double to provide the decisive runs for DHS in an 8-7 win. That win gave DHS three straight wins in the region race for the first time since sweeping St. Martin in the first full week of April in 2023.

In addition to that key two-run double, Wilson also picked up the pitching win after recording just two outs in the bottom of the sixth, before Ayden Toncrey tossed the seventh to earn a save.

Prior to that game, D’Iberville earned a close 3-2 win over HCHS on Thursday last week and then took the rubber match 5-2 on Friday.

On Friday, the Warriors broke open a 2-2 tie in the top of the seventh stanza with a three run rally, as Wilson registered a key two-run single and Ayden Demoran had an RBI-single as well.

Wilson collected a game-high three RBIs in that win.

The 2025 Reese’s Senior Bowl will take place on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 1:30 PM CT at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile, Alabama. The game and practices will be televised on the NFL Network. 

The Reese’s Senior Bowl is widely regarded as the preeminent college football all-star game and the first stage in the NFL Draft process. The longest continual-running all-star game has taken place in Mobile, Alabama the past 75 years.  More than 900 NFL personnel, including key decision-makers from all 32 teams, and over 1100 media members from around the country were credentialed this year. This past April, the game produced 110 total picks, representing 43 percent of the entire NFL draft.
