Prep Baseball: Panthers win fourth straight, Hawks snap losing streak in Region 4-6A play

Upstart Pascagoula continued to climb up the Region 4-6A standings earlier this week while Hancock kept West Harrison win-less as well.

The Panthers won their fourth straight game in the region race with a 9-3 win over visiting Long Beach in game one of that series. Pascagoula moved to 5-2 in the league standings, while the Bearcats fall to 3-4 in the loop as they suffered their third straight league loss.

Ra’Shard Earnest, Knute Robinson and Sean Norvell all combined on the mound to keep the Bearcats at bay for PHS, with Earnest starting and working four frames to pick up the win.

Offensively, Robinson had three hits, including a double, to pace Pascagoula at the plate while Sebastian Ford collected two hits and drove in a pair of runs as well in the winning effort.

Will Brady took the loss for Long Beach.

Flynn James recorded two hits and had two RBIs for the Bearcats.

Game two is set for Long Beach Friday night before the two teams reconvene in Pascagoula on Saturday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Hancock, which was coming off of being swept by Pascagoula last week, snapped a five game league losing streak with a 4-3 win over West Harrison. The Hawks are now 2-5 in the region race and the Hurricanes are 0-7.

Trailing 3-2 entering the bottom of the seventh stanza, Chace Brown slapped a game-winning, walk-off two-run double for home-standing Hancock to pull out the exciting win.

Ayden Howard went the distance on the hill for the Hawks to pick up the complete game win, scattering six hits while striking out six as well and walking five.

Tyler Gazzier had a double for WHHS. Cameron Sandel also tossed a complete game to take the loss.

The teams meet again Friday night at WHHS before finishing out the series back in the kiln Saturday afternoon.
