Prep Baseball: Vancleave still leads the loop, while Stone gets back into the race in Region 4-5A play

Vancleave remained perfect in Region 4-5A play earlier this week while Stone bounced back in fine fashion in league play as well at the midway point of the schedule.
The Bulldogs moved to a perfect 7-0 in the region race with an 11-4 win over Wayne County Wednesday night. Vancleave not only remained unbeaten in the loop but put a little distance at the top of the standings as well from the War Eagles as second place WCHS fell to 5-2.

Vancleave banged out 11 hits in the winning attack, as Martin Shaw had two hits and drove in three runs while Hunter Harper, Dane McElroy and Kyle Capers each had two hits and drove in a run each. Max Bates had a double.
Harper picked up the pitching win.
The two teams will meet in Waynesboro Friday night before they reconvene in Vancleave again Saturday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Stone moved to 4-5 in the region race by completing a three game sweep over last place Laurel Thursday night on the road with a 14-2 win.
The Tomcats were coming off a sweep at the hands of East Central last week, and they got back into playoff contention with those three wins over the Golden Tornadoes this week that got started with a pair of 11-0 wins at home Tuesday in a doubleheader.

In the twinbill Tuesday, in game one Baley Brogan had a two run triple while Nolan Scott drove in three runs and Kellan Burge had two hits and a pair of RBIs. Brax Batson also drove in two runs for the Tomcats.
In the nightcap, Burge had a two-run triple and Jhase Jackson had a two-run double for Stone while Carter Williams also drove in two runs.
Both Ayden Obenhaus and Batson registered pitching shutouts in the two game-shortened contests.
