Prep Baseball: Seeding spots taking shape in Region 8-4A as Pirates clinch third slot

The pecking order in Region 8-4A became a lot more clear this week.
Pass Christian clinched the third seed in the region race with a 12-0 thumping of then league-leading Greene County at home Thursday night.
Brendan Necaise tossed a complete game, six inning shutout for the Pirates as he struck out 11 and walked three while scattering five hits on the hill.

Cooper Lyrock had a two-run home run for the Pirates at the plate, while Necaise also had two hits and he drove in a game-high four runs helping himself out offensively. Stephen Tinsley had two hits, including a double, and Skylar Summerville had two hits also.
The Wildcats, though, did take the three game series two games to one with a 6-2 win on Tuesday and a 10-2 win on Friday. Greene County stands at 8-1 in the region race while Pass has finished up league play at 8-4.

Poplarville is also 8-1 in the league standings and knotted up in the top spot with GCHS after completing a three game sweep of Moss Point Saturday with an 11-0 win.
The Hornets also earned an 11-4 win at home over the Tigers on Tuesday. In that game, Tylan Keys had a home run and a double and drove in two runs for the Hornets while Chase Sones had two hits and a game-high three RBIs and Jeff Smith added two hits to the winning effort as well.
Kevon Ford cracked a home run for the Tigers and Aiden Evans had two hits also.
Luke Sones picked up the win and Evans took the loss.

Poplarville followed that up with a 9-4 road win over the Tigers on Friday.
Chase Sones and Jeremiah Moss had two hits apiece for PHS.
Ford had two hits for MPHS.
Keys struck out seven in five frames of work to pick up the win. Jonovan Thompson took the loss.
Both Moss Point and Bay High sit at 0-9 in the region race an will meet next week at the same time Poplarville and Greene County are matching up.
