There are a pair of important three game match-ups in Region 8-4A this week to close out the regular season portion of league play.

And, no matter what the records are of two of the teams involved are when the dust settles, one will qualify for the upcoming Class 4A South State playoffs.

Moss Point and Bay High face off with the fourth and final postseason spot on the line in this battle of Tigers who have a combined 4-35 record. Moss Point is 3-16 overall, while Bay is sits at 1-19. The teams are both 0-9 in the region race.

Bay High hosts game one Tuesday night, while the teams meet up in Pascagoula Thursday night for Moss Point’s home game. The teams then reconvene back in the Bay Friday night for the series finale,

While the winner of this three game series will take the fourth seed behind Pass Christian, which has clinched the third seed, Poplarville and Greene County will meet this week in a battle for the top two seeds in region play.

The Hornets and Wildcats are both knotted up at 8-1 atop the region race, as both teams dropped one game each to the Pirates in league play. That series begins Tuesday night in Leakesville and then shifts to Poplarville Friday before wrapping back up in Greene County Saturday at 2 p.m.

Poplarville is coming off an 11-0 win over visiting Moss Point Saturday afternoon in just five frames.

Chase Sones had two hits and drove in two runs for the Hornets, while Tylan Keys had two hits as an RBI and Jeremiah Moss drove in two runs also. Both Braylon Magee and Trac Smith had a double each for PHS.

Braden Babowski took the pitching win.

Kevon Ford took the loss for the Tigers.
