GULFPORT — After four weeks of play in Region 4-7A, Gulfport is the only team out of six that has swept three out of its four three-game series so far.

And that’s exactly why the Admirals have pulled into a tie for the top spot in the region race.

Home-standing Gulfport stopped Harrison Central 10-5 Saturday afternoon to finish off that sweep of the Red Rebels with their sixth straight region win and move to 10-2 in the league standings. Thanks to D’Iberville salvaging the final game of its match-up against Ocean Springs, the Admirals and the Greyhounds both stand at 10-2 in the region race as they prepare to close out regular season play this week in a battle for supremacy in the standings.

Gulfport was coming off a 16-1 road win over HCHS in just five frames Friday night.

In the series finale, Gulfport trailed 4-1 and then 5-2 in the middle frames before beginning a winning comeback effort that was completed by a six run rally in the fifth.

“We knew Harrison Central would come out swinging after Friday’s game,” acting Admiral head coach Kelly Weems said. “I was really proud of the way we didn’t panic and just kept chipping away. Their starter was tough, but we kept putting together at bats and got into their bullpen. Our starter didn’t have his best stuff but he gave us a chance to win and our bullpen did a great job putting up zeros until we broke it open.”

Tolar Raybourn’s bases-clearing, three-run triple gave GHS its first lead of the day at 7-5 and it would be one the Admirals wouldn’t relinquish as James Van Slyke followed with an RBI-single. Mason Little’s run-scoring double and an RBI=single from Davis Ormes ended the scoring.

Little had a game-high three hits, including that double, to guide Gulfport at the plate. Ormes and Van Slyke also had two hits each, including a double apiece, and Raybourn had those game-high three RBIs.

Little, the middle of three admiral pitchers, got the win.

Kolton Beard had two hits and drove in a run for the Red Rebels, while M.J. Conner also had two hits and Jaxson Moore had a double.

Carson Rogers took the loss. The Red Rebels now sit at 3-9 in the region race and have lost eight straight league games.

On Friday night, in that 16-1 decision, Davis Ormes carried the big stick at the plate for Gulfport as he swatted a three-run home run and collected two hits and a game-high five RBIs.

Cooper Crosby also had a home run for the Admirals, and Little had a double and drove in three runs.

Taveon Collier went the game-shortened distance to get the win.

Beard had a double for HCHS.

Parrish Laiche took the loss.
