WIGGINS — Last season, the Gautier High baseball team made the state playoffs for the first time in school history.

This season, with a win Thursday night, the Gators can add yet another chapter to their history book on the diamond.

Gautier travels here to Wiggins for game two of that important Region 4-5A series. On Tuesday, at home, the Gators pulled out an exciting 3-2 win to take the opener of this three game set and move one win away from clinching the fourth and final seed for playoff purposes in the region.

Gautier is now in sole possession for fourth place in the region race at 6-7 and Stone sits a game behind at 5-8. Gautier just needs a win either Thursday night on the road or Friday afternoon back at home to wrap up the bid. Stone needs to sweep both games to return to the state playoffs for the eighth straight time.

On Tuesday, Gator number one starter Herion Figueroa went the distance on the mound to earn the all-important win. He scattered just five singles and struck out six in the process.

Tylan Moore singled and was sacrificed over to second by Darrie Slay and then he scored on an RBI-single by Yaxiel Perez. Sebastian Gonzalez and Robert Fernandez also scored runs for the Gators

Kellan Burge took the tough luck loss for the Tomcats, as he also tossed a complete game two-hitter striking out nine.

Jhase Jackson and Nolan Scott had two hits apiece and each drove in a run apiece for Stone.
