Every week throughout the end of the school year, we will honor student/athletes across the “Southern Six” with our “Game Ball of the Week” sponsored by David Baria, Attorney-Mediator of Bay St. Louis.

This week, the Gator sophomore pitcher entered a big three game series and excelled, as Gautier clinched its second straight berth in the Class 5A state playoffs and Figueroa was a major reason why.

After making their first-ever appearance in the state playoffs last season, the Gators entered this week knotted up with Stone in a battle for the fourth seed and the final postseason spot in Region 4-5A.

And Figueroa set the tone for the final week of the regular season in game one against the Tomcats at home on Tuesday, as Gautier’s number one starter went the distance on the mound to earn the all-important win in a close 3-2 decision. He scattered just five singles and struck out six in the process.

Then, the Gators headed to Wiggins Thursday night and and pulled out another exciting one run win at 4-3, to clinch the fourth seed and the ensuing playoff spot as the Gators can add yet another chapter to their history book on the diamond.

Gautier won three opening games in its five region three game series this season, and Figueroa got all three pitching wins.
