A pair of “Southern Six” squads moved on to the second round of the south state playoffs with wins Saturday.

In Class 1A, Resurrection completed a dismantling of Leland with an 18-4 home win. When combined with a 22-0 win on Friday night, the Eagles advance to the second round of the Class 1A South State playoffs.

On Saturday in Pascagoula, the two teams got through four full frames. Brady Maggard had a two-run double for RCS, while Phillip Lachaussee, Joseph Foster and Wyatt Schnoor each drove in two runs apiece as well in the winning effort.

Schnoor picked up the pitching win.

On Friday night, RCS tallied 10 runs in the first frame and 11 more in the second stanza. The game ended after three innings.

The Eagles broke out the big sticks to set the tone in their playoff opener, as Lauchasse, Cortez King, Sully May, Brock Brown and Kyler Bean all smacked home runs in the contest.

Andrew Harbin got the win.

Meanwhile, in Class 4A, Poplarville dispatched Morton in two games to take that opening round series.

The home-standing Hornets took a 9-3 win on Friday night. Brock Sheppard collected game-high totals in both hits with three (including a double) and RBIs with three also. Braylon Magee added two hits and two RBIS as well.

Chase Sones started and worked four frames of the five inning affair to earn the win on the hill.

On Saturday in Morton, Poplarville pounded the Panthers 23-5 to wrap up the sweep.

Sheppard had a home run, while Brayden Lee had a game-high four hits and Ty Keys added three hits. Trac Smith added two hits and drove in a run, while Sheppard had two hits and two RBIs and both Noah Smith and Cruze Sheppard drove in two runs each.

Luke Sones got the win.
