D’IBERVILLE — St. Martin’s season-ending sweep over D’Iberville resulted in two key accomplishments for the Yellow Jackets.

Not only did St. Martin earn a spot in the Class 7A South State playoffs for the first time ever, but the three wins also booted the arch-rival Warriors out of the playoff picture as well.

On Friday afternoon, in the series finale, St.Martin’s 12-3 thumping of DHS not only clinched the third seed in Region 4-7A for playoff purposes but along with Biloxi’s 9-4 win over Harrison Central at the same time gave the Indians the fourth seed and left the Warriors wondering what happened.

D’Iberville came into the week in sole possession of third place in the region race.

On Friday, St. Martin exploded for eight runs in the top of the sixth to break open a close 3-2 contest and set the final league standings in motion.

Brandon Stork had a game-high three hits in the win for SMHS, while Jonathan Baughman carried the big bat for the Yellow Jackets as he collected a pair of hits including a double and drove in a game-high three runs. Sean Stiglets also had two hits and drove in a pair of runs, while Noah Jenner and Kaden Walker had two hits and an RBI apiece.

Lincoln Hust started and picked up the win.

Ayden Demoran had two hits, including a double, for DHS and Jaylan Johnson also had two hits.

Corbin Smith started and took the loss.

On Thursday night, in game two, home-standing St. Martin picked up a 9-4 win over the Warriors.

Stiglets tallied a game-high three hits, including a double, and drove in two runs while Gavin Nitcavic’s triple was one of his two hits and he also had two RBIs. Caleb Lawrence added two hits, while Walker and Jace Jones also had a double apiece.

Rivers Groue picked up the pitching win.

Demoran, Johnson and Cannan West had two hits apiece for DHS, and Caleb West drove in two runs. Cannon Wilson and Cannan West each had a double apiece.

Kaden Allen took the loss, as the Warriors missed the playoffs for the second straight season.
